LUT in Lahti since 1996

LUT University, at the time going by the name Lappeenranta University of Technology, launched permanent activities in Lahti in August 1996. Two decades later, the Lahti unit had developed into the university’s second campus, and today, the Lappeenranta–Lahti University of Technology LUT employs as many as 250 experts in Lahti.

All of LUT's schools have a foothold in Lahti. They conduct research in areas such as sustainability science, biorefining, electric transport, software engineering, knowledge management, and industrial engineering and management.

The campus environment represents a new era in learning and research; it is located in a renovated old factory – a facility that LUT shares with the LAB University of Applied Sciences, which is also part of the university group LUT Universities. The campus brings together roughly 7 600 students, over 800 employees and 20 business enterprises. LUT is a significant actor in research and corporate collaboration in the Lahti area.

As a result of collaboration with ANDRITZ Oy, LUT has a new fibre technology research centre on its Lahti campus. The Electric Mobility Research Center (EMRC), in collaboration with Kempower, introduces a new way to collaborate with companies.
