The European Green Capital, close to everything

With its 120,000 inhabitants, Lahti is one of Finland's largest cities, offering a wide range of activities and events. Urban culture, a diverse range of services, and its central location close to the Helsinki metropolitan area make Lahti a great city for study.

Lahti is located at the intersection of roads and railways, offering good transport connections in all directions. For example, Helsinki and Lappeenranta can be reached by train in about an hour and there is a direct bus connection to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

Having been chosen as the 2021 European Green Capital , the nature- and sports-friendly city aims to become carbon-neutral by 2025 at the latest.

Campus area in Niemi district

Our campus is located along Mukkulankatu Street, about three kilometres from the centre of Lahti. The modern learning environment has been renovated within a factory property that, together with LAB University of Applied Sciences, brings more than 6,000 students, 800 LUT students and about 20 companies under the same roof.

In addition to the factory property along Mukkulankatu Street, the campus area includes the Lahti Science Park building in Niemenkatu Street. Among others, the Lahti University Campus, the University of Helsinki and the LUMA Centre in Päijät-Häme have their premises there.

Campus facilities always available

The Lahti Campus offers everything you need for a successful student life: versatile sports and dining facilities as well as meeting places for students at all moments of the day. The versatile facilities are available to students 24/7.

The facilities for studying can be flexibly adapted to various needs. No classroom or conference room is the same. For example, the 600-seat auditorium is divided into three smaller spaces and, if necessary, can also be integrated into the corridor spaces. The space can, for example, be transformed into a gig venue or a performing arts stage.

The campus has up-to-date workshops, laboratory and simulation facilities, as well as various points for independent study, meetings and teamwork. LUT Science Library, which is open to all, serves on campus.

Exercise is made possible by various group sports facilities, a gym, and outdoor sports facilities and equipment  in the campus courtyard. After exercise, our students can relax in the campus sauna.

In addition to the restaurant area , student-priced taste experiences are offered by an on-campus ice cream parlour and café-bar run by the students themselves.

Studies for those already in working life

Some of our highly working life-oriented programmes offered in Lahti are designed specifically to be carried out alongside work.

Intensive teaching is comprehensively used as part of the teaching work, and many of the basic courses in the study programmes can be remotely completed online. However, not all studies can necessarily be completed fully remotely; due to, for example, laboratory tasks.

Student housing

Lahden Talot  offers a wide range of housing for students in various parts of the city. Student housing is located either right next to the campus or in the city centre and in the surrounding areas of the city centre, but always along good transport connections.

In Lahti, everyone starting their studies is guaranteed residence. Most of the student flats are studios, but there are also shared flats, two-room flats and larger residences for families and group living.

The rents for one-room flats are approximately 352–607 euros per month and the rents for rooms in shared flats are approximately 237–407 euros. The rent always includes Internet access, water, electricity and the use of a shared laundry room and sauna in the housing complex. The flats are unfurnished
