When applying to our international Master's Programmes, you must prove your proficiency in English language with one of the three following methods:
- An accepted language test result
- Degree completed in English in specifically listed countries
- Degree completed in Finnish or Swedish in Finland
Any other certificates for the proficiency in English or statements for the medium of instruction having been English are not accepted.
Proving your proficiency in English
AN ACCEPTED LANGUAGE TEST RESULT
You can prove your proficiency in English language with one of the following language test results with at least the minimum score mentioned:
- IELTS Academic - 6.5
- IELTS Online also accepted.
- IELTS One Skill Retake accepted.
- TOEFL iBT - 90
- TOEFL iBT Home Edition, TOEFL iBT Paper Edition and TOEFL iBT Enhancements also accepted.
- MyBest Scores accepted.
- PTE Academic - 62
- PTE Academic Online also accepted.
- Cambridge English: C1 Advanced - Pass on levels A, B or C
- Cambridge English: C2 Proficiency - Pass on levels A, B or C or level C1 Certificate
- Any other Cambridge tests besides C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency are not accepted.
Note: When applying to programmes in Business Administration through Early Admission without GMAT Exam, GMAT Focus Edition or GRE General Test, higher minimum scores are required in certain cases.

DEGREE COMPLETED IN ENGLISH IN CERTAIN COUNTRIES
You can prove your proficiency in English language with a Bachelor's or Master's Degree completed in English in
- an EU/EEA country
- Australia
- Canada
- Ireland
- New Zealand
- Switzerland
- United Kingdom
- United States of America
Degrees completed in English on offshore campuses are accepted if the main university located in one of the countries listed.
The fact that the language of instruction was English must be clearly indicated on the educational documents.
If applying with an unfinished Bachelor's Degree, you can prove your proficiency in English with that same unfinished degree.
In case of proving your proficiency in English language with another degree apart from the one you are applying with, you must have completed that degree and graduated by the application deadline (Regular Admission) or at the time of applying (Early Admission).
DEGREE COMPLETED IN FINNISH OR SWEDISH IN FINLAND
You can prove your proficiency in English language with a degree of higher education i.e. at least a Bachelor's degree completed
- in Finnish or Swedish in a Finnish University or a University of Applied Sciences
If applying with an unfinished Bachelor's Degree, you are able to prove your proficiency in English language with that same unfinished degree.
In case of proving your proficiency in English language with another degree apart from the one your are applying with, you must have completed that degree and graduated by the application deadline.
Deadline for language test results
The final date to upload your official test result on your application form and for us to be able to electronically verify it from the test database is
- Regular Admission: 5 February 2025 at 15:00 (UTC+2)
- Early Admission: 14 days from the supplementary request
Any late results or results that cannot be verified by the given deadline will not be accepted.
Validity for language test results
The language test results are valid for two years from the date of taking the test and your test result must be a valid one on the first day of the related application period.
- Early Admission: Test dates before 1 October 2022 will not be accepted.
- Regular Admission: Test dates before 16 December 2022 will not be accepted.
Verification for the language test results
Your test result will always be electronically verified from the test organisation's database.
The IELTS and the TOEFL test esults can be verified from the related database without any further actions from you when you have uploaded your test result to your application form.
The PTE Academic and the Cambrigde test results further actions from you are required for us to be able to verify your result.
IELTS Online also accepted.
- Indicate your Test Report Form (TRF) number to your application form.
- Upload a PDF copy for your Test Report Form to your application form.
- Your test result can be verified without any further actions towards the test organizer from you.

TOEFL iBT Home Edition and TOEFL iBT Paper Edition also accepted.
- Indicate the Appointment # from your Test Taker Score Report to your application form.
- Upload a PDF copy for your Test Taker Score Report to your application form.
- Your test result can be verified without any further actions from you.
- If you still wish to add LUT University as a recipient for your electronic TOEFL Score Report at the time of booking or taking the test, you can request the ETS Test Centre to add LUT University as a recipient by indicating our official name Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT and our Institution Code 0496.

MyBest Scores* accepted while all the individual results must be valid ones.
*MyBest Scores = an overall score for the test taker's highest section of individual scores from all valid test dates in the last 2 years. Available for score reports starting from 1 August 2019.
PTE Academic Online also accepted.
- Send your electronic Score Report to LUT University from your PTE Online Account.
- Use the official name Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT.
- Indicate your Score Report Code to your application form.
- Upload the PDF copy of your Score Report to your application form.

C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency by Cambridge English
- Register at the CAE Candidate Website
- Share your test score directly from the Candidate Results website to LUT University.
- Use our official name Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT.
- Indicate the Verification Number from your Statement of Results to your application form.
- Upload a PDF copy for your Statement of Results to your application form.
