The project aims to increase the efficiency of the use of sludge from drinking water treatment plants as part of wastewater treatment and thus develop material efficiency in the water sector as an alternative to the current situation where the recycling potential of drinking water sludge is lost due to its disposal. The project will explore the potential for the beneficial use of drinking water sludge both as a substitute for commercial phosphorus precipitation chemicals in wastewater treatment and as a feedstock for biogas production. To enable that, the methods to improve the properties of drinking water sludge to make it more suitable for recycling will also be explored.
Project period:
1.9.2023-31.8.2025
Project funding:
European Regional Development Fund
Goals
The aim of the project is to investigate how sludge from drinking water treatment plants can be utilized in wastewater treatment, both as a substitute for commercial precipitation chemicals and as a feedstock for biogas production.
