Apartments
Summer school students can arrange their own accommodation or submit an application with the Student Housing Foundation for the Region of Lappeenranta (LOAS). The foundation will provide summer school students with a furnished single room in a shared apartment (2-3-bedroom apartment, shared bathroom/shower and kitchen). The residences are within easy walking distance of the university.
LOAS normally provides accommodation from Saturday to Saturday. However, students participating in the summer school field trip may return their keys by Monday, July 8. No extra fee is then required for the additional day.
A furnished apartment includes:
- a table, chairs, a refrigerator and an oven in the kitchen;
- a bathroom;
- a desk, office chair, bookcase, desk lamp, and bed with a mattress (80x200 cm) in the bedroom.
No blankets, pillows or kitchenware (pots, pans, dishes, or cutlery) are included. The university provides students with a mattress and curtains. (Finland's midnight sun is an amazing experience, but it might be difficult to fall asleep without curtains)
Accommodation fee: 1 week EUR 130, 2 weeks EUR 240, 3 weeks EUR 340 + EUR 40 LOAS office fee
Join the "Buy&Sell in Lappeenranta" Facebook group to find used items, or buy ones from a local hypermarket.
If you prefer to stay somewhere else during LUT Summer School, you will need to arrange the accommodation yourself.
Sauna
LOAS apartment buildings have shared saunas. You can also visit the Vierula Sauna by Lake Saimaa on Mondays and Wednesdays from 17:00 to 21:00. Sauna 1 is reserved for men, sauna 2 for women.
Laundry
In LOAS apartment buildings, there are laundry rooms at your disposal free of charge. Follow the laundry room's instructions.
Getting around in Lappeenranta
You can take city bus lines 1 and 5 to get around. The distance from the LUT campus to downtown Lappeenranta is approximately 7 kilometres.
A single bus ticket costs €3.20, and it is valid for one hour (allows changing buses or a return trip), after 17:30 and on weekends (Sat/Sun), the fare is €2.50 for a one-hour ticket.
