The pace of change is faster than ever before. Between the rapid changes in digitalisation, automatisation, artificial intelligence and robotics and their constant presence in our lives, it is easy to forget that innovation is driven by humans, for humans. Focusing on the improvement of human-centred change at both the individual and organisational levels will continue to be the main asset of organisations all over the world. Enabling interaction is important to achieve new levels of activity or innovation in organisational development and various forms of cooperation.

Transitions are complex, systemic changes, taking place in, for instance, a certain industry or societal function. They are understood as multi-level changes from one socio-technical system to another, involving co-evolution of technological and societal factors.

The programme aims to provide students with a systemic vision about development in organisations and the skills and capabilities for leadership, critical thinking and managing change. The programme takes an interdisciplinary approach to the management of organisational development, teaching participants to analyse, understand and lead different company processes and to apply technological, economic, and human knowledge to resolve real-life industrial, business, and organisational problems.

In this programme, you will gain expertise in industrial engineering and management and an in-depth understanding of change, leadership, development, well-being, and innovation. Close collaboration with industrial companies, other organisations and networks will ensure the practical worldwide application of new knowledge and theories.

What will you learn in the programme?

As a graduate of the programme, you will understand the complexity of change at individual, organisational and network levels – globally. You will also learn ways to change the present and to lead change involving diverse people and expertise. 

This programme highlights areas of industrial engineering and management connected to management and leadership, creativity and innovation, futures thinking and foresight, transformation, and sustainability. In addition, you will get practical knowledge and skills in decision-making, strategic thinking, systemic visioning, entrepreneurial modes of operation, goal-setting, problem-definition, and networking. In addition, the programme will enable you to adopt a forward-looking mindset.

After the completion of the master's programme, you will have:

  • the ability to analyse, understand and lead different organisational processes and apply technological, economic, and human knowledge to resolve real-life challenges in industry and organisations. Knowledge of leadership roles and practices will allow you to handle the complexity of human-centric organisations and networks;
  • skills to navigate proactively in a socio-technical environment. You will learn to define the possibilities and challenges of societal and technological changes by combining technology and economics in a balanced way. This helps to develop resilience and envision possible futures to make better decisions in organisations and networks;
  • the ability to use different quantitative and qualitative methods like data analysis, impact assessment, creativity and arts-based methods, gamification, and foresight research for the innovative development of organisations or networks;
  • transferable skills, including teamwork, effective communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving;
  • a professional and international network of other students, scholars, experts in different fields, and company representatives in your projects and assignments; 
  • practical skills and a curious mindset for embracing life-long learning.
     

Degree structure and studies

The Master's Programme in Management of Organisational Development takes two years. It leads to the degree of Master of Science in Technology, M.Sc. (Tech.), which is 120 ECTS credits.

The programme includes core studies, advanced specialisation studies, and minor and elective studies. Advanced specialisation studies include a master's thesis (30 ECTS credits).

The master's programme prepares you to work as a professional in industrial engineering and management in a wide range of jobs where there is need to combine engineering and business, apply human-centred change and innovation processes or manage sustainable renewal.

After graduation, you will have good competencies to work in international and multidisciplinary environments.

Possible jobs after graduation include development manager, innovation consultant, continuous improvement manager, project engineer, innovation specialist and researcher. 

The positions may be found in large companies, SMEs, government organisations, and research institutes. You will also have a firm basis for doctoral studies in technology.
