Citizens of the following countries are not required to pay a tuition fee:
- The European Union (EU)
- The European Economic Area (EEA)
- Switzerland
Non-EU/EEA Citizens
For the Bachelor's programmes starting in the academic year 2023-2024, the tuition fees are:
- EUR 9 500/each academic year in Bachelor's Programmes in Technology and Engineering Science, Computational Engineering, Sustainable International Business and Industrial Engineering and Management
Early Bird discount: When accepted to one of these four programmes, you are granted an Early Bird discount of EUR 2000 on your first year's tuition fee:
During the first year of studies, you must pay the total amount of EUR 7 500.
The tuition fee must be paid within 21 days of the admission decision.
- EUR 9 000/each academic year in double degree programmes
Citizens of the non-EU/EEA countries (excluding Switzerland) must pay a tuition fee for their studies in the international programmes in Finland in general and also at LUT University.
Exceptions for the Non-EU/EEA Citizens
If being a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country (excluding Switzerland) and a holder of one of the following, you are NOT required to pay a tuition fee:
- Continuous Residence Permit Card in Finland (A) for a non-study purpose
NOTE: Having been awarded a Residence Permit Card A with a remark OPISKELIJA 2016/801/EU or OPISKELIJA for studying, you are required to pay a tuition fee

- Permanent Residence Permit Card in Finland (P)
- EU Residence Permit for Third-Country Citizens with a Long-Term Residence Permit Card in Finland (P-EU)
- EU Family Member's Residence Card in Finland
- EU Blue Card in Finland
To prove LUT University of being exempted from paying a tuition fee based on a Residence Permit Card issued by Finnish Immigration Service, you must upload a copy for your Residence Permit Card to your application form.
In order to be exempted from paying a tuition fee, the document proving the excemption must be valid on August 1 in the academic year you have been admitted to start your studies. Should the status for your Residence Permit Card change at any time, you must contact LUT Scholarships without any delay.
Your residence (permit) card or residence card has to be granted by The Finnish Immigration Service.
Exceptions for the UK Citizens
After the United Kingdom having left the European Union, the UK citizens are now following the same rules regarding to the tuition fee and scholarships as the other non-EU/EEA citizens, while the application period for Brexit permits in Finland was closed on 30 September 2021.
The following exceptions are related to the UK citizens living in Finland since before 1 January 2021:
- If having been living in Finland since before 1 January 2021 and having been issued a Brexit permit by 30 September 2021, you are exempted from paying a tuition fee.
- If having been living in Finland since before 1 January 2021 and having been applied for a Brexit permit by 30 September 2021 but still waiting for your Residence Permit Card, you may be exempted from paying a tuition fee.
To prove of being exempted, please upload a statement by Finnish Immigration Service for having applied for a right of residence or, for a permanent right of residence under the Withdrawal Agreement.
