LUT’s Bachelor’s Programme in Sustainable International Business (SIB) offers students the opportunity to combine traditional business skills with the principles of sustainable development.
The programme focuses on corporate responsibility, the management of sustainable value chains, and ethical practices in international marketing. Its goal is to educate experts who understand the impact of business both locally and globally and can contribute to advancing sustainability goals in the corporate world.
We interviewed two students from the programme about their study experiences.
“Where there’s a will, there’s a way”
“I chose the SIB programme because I wanted to learn directly from the leaders in sustainability. My goal is to bring those lessons and strategies back to my homeland and make a real difference in developing countries.
I have found my time in the programme and at the university rewarding and eye-opening, particularly after a long period in the professional world, away from academia. The university's support systems have been outstanding, making it easy for students to thrive.
The curriculum and activities are designed to develop both academic understanding and practical abilities.
Company visits to leading local enterprises provide students with valuable real-world exposure, preparing them for professional challenges and the competitive job market.
As a pilot programme, there is always some room for improvement. I think the programme would be even stronger if it included more finance courses, especially ones that are more inclusive. Adding basic history courses, particularly on international business and economics, would also be helpful.
All in all, the programme is a truly international and globally oriented experience. It aims to offer students a well-rounded education, combining business courses with cross-cultural perspectives, which highlights its commitment to diversity and global thinking. The programme also seeks to develop strong practical skills and encourage respect for scientific research and evidence.

Businesses play a critical role in achieving sustainability, especially in international contexts where the impact is far-reaching. We live in an era where challenges and innovations are not confined by geographical boundaries. Likewise, technological advancements and expertise must be shared across borders.
We can achieve this by learning from successful strategies and best practices, particularly from more developed regions. By understanding their business methods, we can become catalysts for progress in the Global South. This will improve our planet and lead to a more harmonious global business environment. The SIB programme is designed to train experts for this international field.
I recommend this programme to anyone who is thinking long-term about their personal and professional growth, particularly if they want to make a real difference in sustainable business worldwide.
As we all know, aligning your personal and career goals is crucial for success.
In Mongolia, we have a saying similar to 'where there's a will, there's a way’. With this in mind, if you are really committed to sustainability efforts, the SIB programme at LUT University offers the resources and frameworks to help you achieve those goals.”
