The QS World University Rankings is one of the leading university rankings in the world along with the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings and the so-called Shanghai list (Academic Ranking of World Universities or ARWU).
In the 2022 rankings, QS lists the world's top 1300 universities. LUT University places 414th on the list, published on 8 June 2021.
"We are delighted to earn our all-time best result in the QS rankings. The number of ranked universities has increased, and being among the global top third is an excellent result," says Jari Hämäläinen, LUT's Vice Rector for Research.
QS ranks universities based on six indicators. The areas assessed include academic reputation, employer reputation, international faculty, citations per faculty member, the student-to-faculty ratio, and the number of international students.
LUT performs particularly well in the citation per faculty member indicator, which measures research activities. LUT's position in citations is 65th of all the ranked universities and the second best among the nine Finnish universities in the ranking.
"Focusing on high-quality scientific solutions is at the heart of our strategy. Placing among the global top 65 in citations is an indication of our significant scientific impact," Hämäläinen concludes.
