The application period for LUT University's master's programmes is open from 1 December 2023 to 17 January 2024. Applicants who have completed a suitable bachelor’s degree in Finland or abroad are eligible for admission. The duration of LUT's master's degrees in technology, business and social sciences is two years, and their scope is 120 ECTS credits.

The total intake of the programmes that are now open for application is 1463 students: 1093 in technology, 250 in business, and 120 in social sciences. All in all, 26 of the master’s programmes take place in Lappeenranta, ten in Lahti, two in Kouvola and one in Mikkeli. Some programmes can be completed alongside full-time work and partly remotely. 

Altogether 29 master's programmes are taught in English, and both Finnish and international applicants are eligible for them. Students coming from outside of EU or EEA countries or Switzerland pay a tuition fee of 13 500 euros per academic year. 

LUT’s collaboration programmes (double and triple degrees) have their own specific application periods and tuition fees.

New English-language technology programmes include renewable energy, food technology and mechatronics 

The field of chemical engineering includes two master’s programmes in English. The Master's Programme in Chemical Engineering for Energy Transition deals with replacing fossil energy sources with renewable ones. It is an on-campus programme that takes place in Lappeenranta. The Master’s Programme in Food Processing Technology is a blended programme in Kouvola, and it focuses on processing technologies and unit processes in food production. 

The mechanical engineering Master’s Programme in Mechatronics involves the application of artificial intelligence to the control systems of machines and processes and their maintenance, services and programming. The blended learning programme takes place in Lahti and also deals with the sustainability and environmental aspects of machine systems.

How to apply to master's and bachelor's programmes at LUT 

  • The application period for Finnish- and English-language master's programmes starts on 1 December 2023 at 8:00 and ends on 17 January 2024 at 15:00. 
  • The application period for English-language bachelor's programmes starts on 3 January 2024 at 8:00 and ends on 17 January 2024 at 15:00. 
  • The application period for Finnish-language bachelor's programmes starts on 13 March 2024 at 8:00 and ends on 27 March 2024 at 15:00. 
  • Applications to all programmes are submitted through opintopolku.fi.

Social and communications sciences up for application for the first time 

LUT's new social and communications sciences master’s programmes solve wicked problems related to the sustainability transition and human–technology interfaces. All the master’s programmes in social and communications sciences are taught in English and are arranged on-campus in Lappeenranta. 

The Master's Programme in Digital Social Science provides wide-ranging information on human behaviour in a digital environment with smart technologies. The Master's Programme in Sociotechnical Systems and Sustainability Transitions analyses the social, economic, political and technological aspects of energy, water and food systems and aims to make those systems more resource-efficient. 

The Master’s Programme in Global Communications and Clean Air, Water and Energy focuses on analysing, assessing and identifying disinformation and strategic narratives that shape sustainability and the green transition locally and globally.
