The collaboration between municipalities and the companies operating within them is seen as crucial for the vitality of the region, industrial renewal, and investments supporting them, especially in the vicinity of the eastern border. The survey conducted in the South Savo region supports the development of the local industrial cluster and the concentration of R&D activities in critical areas. The central objective of the project is to form a realistic understanding of the region's opportunities and challenges, which can be used to support strategic planning. Local development companies, businesses, and research organizations can leverage the verified regional strengths and potential resource concentrations identified in the project for EU-level R&D projects and other development initiatives.

Goals
The central objective of the project is to form a realistic understanding of the opportunities and challenges linked to the region's resources, which can be used to support strategic planning. To achieve this, the current and future production of wind and solar energy in the area will be examined, and the potential for hydrogen production will be assessed from the perspective of regional industrial players. Based on the project, energy transmission and storage needs can be anticipated both within the region and nationally across provincial borders. The goal is to create a comprehensive picture of the development directions related to the region's energy sector, which will support long-term investment and development planning. Additionally, the aim is to strengthen the understanding of the impact of investments on the economy, employment, and the overall vitality of the region.
