Team is dedicated to sophisticate electric drives powered processes and machinery in order to achieve good energy efficiency, high performance, reliability or safety or to introduce new functionality. Electrical drives have an important role in different applications where energy conversion is needed. Optimization of the drive for particular use often requires advanced modeling combined with data-based system identification approaches. The system engineering research team is focusing on the analysis, control, system identification, modeling and optimization of the electrical drive technology. The field of expertise of the research team includes several key application areas:

• Electric drive systems for vessels and hybrid working machines
• Mechatronics
• High speed machine technology

The group work with a general framework for (industrial) cyber-physical systems based on physical, data and decision layers. The target is to determine fundamental limits and improved design for different classes of applications. Our focus is on energy-centric solutions to solve resource allocation problems in energy systems considering a holistic solution, from data acquisition to control actions. The main fields of research are the following:

• Energy management system including industrial, residential and transportation loads.
• Wireless communications including applications in feedback control systems.
• Anomaly detection in cyber-physical systems.
• Energy-aware resource allocation in supply-demand-storage systems.

We have 20 years of expertise in AMBs, Bearingless motors (BM), and magnetic levitation. The research covers all aspects from AMB system design and overall application optimization to component (actuators, sensors, electronics), identification, and controller design. Hands on research and prototyping for such applications as: industrial heat pumps, turbines, compressors, pumps, flywheels, manufacturing and transportation levitated systems, and others.
