LUT has everything a student needs: I loved that you could access study rooms and computers until late at night, the cafeteria had tons of affordable food options, the gym was affordable, and the nature surrounding Lake Saimaa was beautiful and calming.

Full focus on functionality, not sophisticated systems – creative minimalism as a way of life

For Hadi, it was the affordable tuition fees and availability of programmes in English that drew him to Finland in the first place. Once his Master's Programme in Global Management of Innovation and Technology started, he never looked back, felt out of place, or regretted his choice. LUT provided all the resources and support for his next steps.

On top of the facilities, he remembers life lessons from professors that keep guiding his actions to this day. One of them: the best system is the one that performs the function.

The education at LUT is closely intertwined with industry, and each programme requires students to put academic theory into practice in group and individual projects.

This pragmatic approach stood out to Hadi throughout his studies.

One example of academic theory turned into real-life success occurred during Hadi's internship at BASF. A business model canvas from his academic toolkit improved value offerings, turned out a meaningful contribution to the project - and helped the then-intern make a lasting impression.

Among all the academic theories, the ones that we put into practice in projects or case studies have stayed with me.

Always look for partnerships - building international connections and friendships

“Don’t stay in your foreigner bubble! Join as many associations and clubs as possible and build connections across the world – always stay curious,” Hadi advises.

LUT offers countless clubs and organizations – often called guilds – that help connect students. Hadi himself was part of the ESTIEM organization that connects European students who share a background in industrial engineering and management.

Another great way to connect with students from across the globe is LUT’s Summer School.

According to Hadi, not only did he build his international network – he made friends for life.

From pragmatic decisions to life lessons – LUT as a stepping stone for international careers

What started as a pragmatic decision turned out to be an educational experience full of real-life applications and lessons that run deeper than academia. Any last words of advice from Hadi?

“My advice for students is to apply to LUT; I think it’s an amazing choice. You will have courses offered by caring professors, freedom to select your own courses, beautiful nature in which to relax and be active with other students, and an international environment that invites you to connect with the world.”
