Step 1: Find a suitable programme
It all starts with finding a programme you’re interested in and qualified to apply for. LUT University offers programmes in technology, business, and social and communication sciences. Our programmes center around sustainability.
- Familiarize yourself with our programmes on our website. The overview of bachelor’s and master’s programmes gives you a good idea of LUT’s offering, and on the programme sites, you’ll find a link to a detailed breakdown of the curriculum.
- Check the admission requirements. They differ from programme to programme, but language requirements are always included. You can find all the information on our website to gage whether or not you meet the requirements and are eligible to apply.
Step 2: Prepare your documents
Once you know the requirements of each programme, it’s time to get your documents in order: language test results, degree certificates, and transcript of records – possibly with official translations – and a copy of your passport or ID card. Make sure to start this process as early as possible.
Don’t panic if you’re about to graduate and don’t have your finished diploma in hand just yet. There are separate deadlines for submitting individual documents. You can check the requirements under “Applying with an unfinished degree”.
- Take one of the language tests accepted by LUT University if required. Find a local institute that offers IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, or Cambridge English tests. Remember to prepare for the standardized tests even if you feel confident in your language abilities. Knowing what tasks to expect under time pressure and with exam nerves will help your language skills shine.
- Check for any additional standardized tests that may be required to supplement your degree. The requirements section will give you clear instructions on the accepted test formats in case your degree does not explicitly cover them.
- If required, get an official translation for your degree certificate, transcript of records and/or curriculum. An official translation is generally defined as a translation that has been certified by an authority. The requirements for “official” vary depending on each country's legal system. Countries also have their own systems for appointing and regulating official translators.
Step 3: Send out your online application
Once you have all the required documentation, all you need to do is fill out the online application form at Studyinfo.
- Be mindful of the deadlines – they’re strict, and no exceptions will be made. The application deadlines are communicated in Finnish time, so make sure to account for time differences.
- Reading the instructions and following them thoroughly is the key to a technically complete application and ensures that your application progresses through the admission process.
- Please only attach the documents that are mentioned in the requirements. We understand there might be many more accomplishments you’re proud of, but the Admissions Committee for the programme that conducts the formal assessment will not take into consideration anything but the formal requirements.
- After you receive confirmation that your application was successfully submitted, please be patient. The admissions team certainly received your application and will contact you once it has been processed. If you reach out to check on the status of your application, answering your questions will slow down the process.
Step 4: Get feedback from the admissions team
The admissions team will first check to see if you meet all the formal requirements and whether your application can be forwarded for academic evaluation.
- Upload the documents when requested and follow the given deadlines. You can always refer to the application instructions to make sure no mandatory documents or information is missing from your application. Please remember: the deadlines are non-negotiable, so make sure to keep an eye on your email inbox for further requests.
- Once your application passes the formal check, you’ll receive an update from the admissions team, stating that your application has been forwarded to the departments for evaluation. Please wait patiently for the final decision.
Step 5: You receive the admission decision
When the department has reviewed your application, you’ll receive an official email on whether or not you’re being offered a place in the programme.
If you’re offered a place, make sure to accept it in Studyinfo before the deadline. If you miss the deadline, you’ll lose your place without the possibility of reclaiming it.
