The LUT University board has decided that the university will apply for educational responsibilities in civil and construction engineering. If LUT obtains sufficient external funding for the purpose, it will submit an application to the Ministry of Education and Culture in May 2024.
If the ministry grants LUT the educational responsibilities, the first civil and construction engineering students could start their studies in Lahti already in autumn 2026.
The new educational responsibilities would complement the existing engineering sciences education at LUT University. The aim is to expand the current civil and construction engineering studies at LUT and educate future construction industry professionals, enabling them to take advantage of the most recent multidisciplinary research and make buildings sustainable.
The contents of the studies will equip students to respond particularly to future energy and environmental challenges in the built environment.
In arranging the studies, LUT will collaborate with the civil and construction engineering programme of the LAB University of Applied Sciences. However, the degree programmes will remain separate, and both institutions will focus on their own areas of strength.
