Hi! My name is Martti, and I graduated from LUT / International Marketing program in 2001. Although my major was marketing, I have worked only about two years in marketing. Instead of concentrating on marketing, my career is a path of roles focusing on innovation, digital services development and service design.

My first job after graduation was a researcher at LUT, focusing on business model innovation. During that time, I worked one year in Japan as a visiting researcher. In 2005 I decided to take a step away from academic world and joined Finpro, where I helped Finnish companies to start business in China. Next, I moved to Tekes, where I managed a multinational project focusing on service innovation. That was followed by two super interesting years at Rovio, leading a new business discovery team and managing international R&D projects. After Rovio’s downfall, I had to find a new job and I joined LähiTapiola, where I was responsible for service design in several digital development projects. After two years in insurance business, I moved to consulting at Symbio. I was responsible for innovation and design thinking business, and I got to work with many interesting clients globally. Then, in the beginning of 2024, I started as Chief Digital Officer at Safetum, where I’m heading the digital development activities in the company.

I’m interested in mentoring mainly because of two reasons. Firstly, I feel that with my long and diverse experience, I would be able to share my knowledge on career development, working in different kinds of organisations and working in international and multicultural business environment. Also, I have had unemployment periods along my career, and I can reflect on the feelings during those times. Secondly, while already 23 years have passed since my graduation, I would be interested in learning how today’s students see the work life and what their skills and expectations are.
