Tero Karppi is Associate Professor of Critical Computation and Digital Media at the University of Toronto, and a Visiting Professor at LUT University. For a decade, Karppi has been working on the nascent field of disconnection studies focusing on how social media platforms engage their users and keep them captivated despite emerging desires to quit. Karppi is the author of Disconnect: Facebook’s Affective Bonds (Minnesota 2018), one of the authors of Undoing Networks (Minnesota/Meson 2021), and one of the editors of Reckoning with Social Media (Rowman & Littlefield 2021). At ICCIT, Karppi is serving as Associate Director, research. He is the PI of a SSHRC Insight Grant funded project called Platform Mars.

 

This is an event organised by the Research Group on Economy, Technology, and Society (GETS) at the Department of Social Sciences, LUT School of Engineering Sciences. It is a part of the series of events under the theme of the Political Economy of Green-Digital Transition. 

 

In June, the International Workshop & Summer School on the Political Economy of Green-Digital Transition will take place at LUT campus.
