LUT University's Finnish-language bachelor’s programmes drew nearly 5,500 applicants. The most popular programmes were business, industrial management, social sciences, and mechanical engineering.
The second application round of Finnish universities ended on Tuesday 25 March 2025. LUT University offered 613 places in its Finnish-language bachelor's programmes and received a total of 5,494 applications. The application round included 11 bachelor’s programmes arranged on the university’s Lappeenranta campus.
LUT’s social and communication sciences programmes, offered now for the third time, increased in popularity compared to the previous year. Both programmes saw an increase of over 100 applications.
“I’m happy to see that applicants are interested in LUT year after year. We're especially glad that social and communication sciences seem to have established their place alongside our traditional cornerstones, technology and business,” says Jaana Sandström, vice rector for education.
Technology and business programmes have their own joint admission systems, which are part of the national joint application procedure for universities. Programmes with joint admission have the same admission criteria.
Technology programmes fill 80 per cent and business, social sciences, and communication sciences programmes 60 per cent of their available places through certificate-based admission or admission based on prior academic records.
Entrance examinations are for applicants who were not admitted based on their certificates. Applicants who are admitted to a secondary programme option based on their academic record may still pursue a place in their preferred programme by taking an entrance examination.
All students admitted to bachelor's programmes are automatically entitled to continue their studies in master's programmes in technology, business, and social sciences.
The application period for master's programmes taught in Finnish was in January. The number of applications to the master's programmes increased by 3.6 per cent compared to the previous year.
