The Lahti City Board has awarded this year's golden Lahti Medal to the chair of LUT University's board, Teresa Kemppi-Vasama, M.Soc.Sc., MBA. The Lahti Medal is given annually in recognition of outstanding service to the City of Lahti.

The award especially recognizes Kemppi-Vasama's role in promoting LUT University’s operation and standing in Lahti. Kemppi-Vasama has been on the LUT board for over six years: first as the deputy chair and now as the chair. LUT's current board started its four-year term on 1 January 2022.

The award committee stated that LUT University has brought fresh expertise and innovation to Lahti. That, in turn, has furthered the city’s development as a cluster of sustainable technology and academic education.

The golden Lahti Medal was presented to Teresa Kemppi-Vasama on the anniversary of the founding of Lahti on 1 November 2024.
