LUT University has moved up in the QS World University Rankings 2024. LUT placed 351st among the 1 503 universities listed. Last year, LUT was 388th of a total of 1 422 universities. This year, LUT improved its ranking by 37 positions, even as the number of universities increased by 81.
"Our all-time best result in the QS rankings shows that we’ve done the right things in both research and education. Our long-term work has paid off," says Jari Hämäläinen, LUT's vice rector for research.
The QS World University Rankings are one of the leading university rankings globally along with the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. QS now ranked universities based on nine indicators. The areas assessed included academic reputation, employer reputation, international citations per faculty member, the student-to-faculty ratio, the number of international students, sustainability, the international research network, and employment outcomes.
This year, LUT performed particularly well in the citations per faculty member indicator: the university is in the global top 36. Among the Finnish universities ranked, LUT was first in terms of citations and second in the number of foreign students. One third of LUT’s first-year master’s students come from abroad.
“We’re a highly international university. In the future, we aim to be even more international, and we’re already well on our way to achieving that goal,” Hämäläinen continues.
