LUT will expand its Master's studies in Lahti and start a new degree programme in software engineering. The new programme is called Digital Systems and Service Development. It will be in English, and its intake will be roughly 30 students. In addition, students who have graduated from the Software and Systems Engineering Bachelor’s programme are eligible to apply. Applications can be submitted starting from November 2022.

“In an economy driven by digital innovation, it is important to acquire competencies to develop digital service systems and adopt a service-oriented mindset. With our programme, students become experts in the development of human-centred digital services that incorporate state-of-the-art digital technologies,” Head of Programme Dominik Siemon explains.

The new programme will be LUT’s second degree programme in software engineering in Lahti, and it will focus more on the technological aspects of software engineering than the other programme, Software Product Management and Business, which emphasises the business side of software engineering.

Response to the growing need for software engineering specialists

The new Digital Systems and Service Development programme responds to the growing need for software engineering specialists. It combines service design methodologies with modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and distributed systems to develop digital services. Graduates from the programme will be able to find jobs as digital service engineers, smart service developers, service designers and software systems architects, for example.

“At LUT Software Engineering, our goal on the Lahti campus from the very beginning has been to offer a full pipeline of studies, from the Bachelor’s level all the way to Doctor of Science in Technology. With this new programme, we will enable our students to pursue additional directions in the software engineering discipline and offer them the opportunity to tailor their studies at LUT University to match the needs and interests of the future”, says Jussi Kasurinen, Head of LUT Software Engineering Programmes.
