The QS World University Rankings are one of the leading university rankings in the world along with the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings and the so-called Shanghai list (Academic Ranking of World Universities or ARWU).
QS lists the world's top 1 422 universities in the 2023 rankings. LUT University places 388th on the list, published on 8 June 2022.
"We are delighted to achieve our all-time best result in the QS rankings. The number of ranked universities has increased and being among the global top third is an excellent result," says Jari Hämäläinen, LUT's Vice Rector for Research.
QS ranks universities based on following indicators:
- Academic Reputation
- Employer Reputation
- Faculty/Student Ratio
- Citations per Faculty
- International Faculty
- International Students
- International Research Network (unweighted)
- Employment Outcomes (unweighted)
Of the nine Finnish universities included in the QS Rankings, LUT placed fifth. LUT performs particularly well in terms of the citation per faculty member indicator, which measures research activities. LUT's position in citations is 33rd of all the ranked universities and first among the nine Finnish universities in the ranking.
"High-quality science is at the heart of LUT’s strategy. To be ranked among the top 33 universities in the world is an incredible achievement for which I would like to thank our entire scientific community,” Hämäläinen concludes.
