LUT University has yet again achieved strong results in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject. In the 2025 subject rankings, LUT was compared internationally in four fields:

  • business and economics (176–200th)
  • physical sciences (201–250th)
  • engineering (251–300th)
  • computer science (301–400th)

This year, computer science and engineering held their high positions. The outcome is positive, because both subject lists include approximately a hundred universities more than last year. In addition, LUT ranked third in Finland in engineering. The engineering subject covers areas such as electrical, energy, and mechanical engineering.

”Our stable position in engineering indicates the effort we have put into research quality and our resources while increasing the number of our English-language programmes,” says Olli Pyrhönen, dean of the LUT School of Energy Systems.

LUT Business School in the world's top 11 in research quality

LUT Business School placed among the top 200 out of 990 business schools in the THE rankings in the field of business and economics. Although its position dropped slightly, LUT Business School is second among Finland’s business schools included in the rankings and Finland’s first in research quality. Globally, LUT Business School is in the top 11 in research quality.

”Our place in the global top 200 can be seen as a positive result, because the high-level ranking included almost 100 business schools more than last time,” says Sami Saarenketo, dean of LUT Business School.

LUT’s ranking in physical sciences also declined slightly, but LUT is still among the world's top 250 universities in the field. Also, LUT’s physical sciences ranks second in Finland overall and first in research quality and international outlook. The physical sciences subject covers education and research in physics, chemistry, and mathematics.

”It is great to see that the high-quality work of our international community has also had an impact in international university rankings. In recent years, we have developed especially water technology research and education,” says Mari Kallioinen-Mänttäri, dean of the LUT School of Engineering Sciences.
