Biography

Olli Pyrhönen received the M.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT), Lappeenranta, Finland, in 1990 and 1998, respectively. Since 2000, he has been a Professor in applied control engineering at LUT. In 2010, he received further teaching and research responsibility in the wind power technology at LUT. He has gained industrial experience as a R&D Engineer at ABB Helsinki in 1990-1993 and as a CTO of  The Switch in 2007-2010. His recent research areas have included modeling and control of active magnetic bearings, bearingless machines, renewable system power electronics and electrical drives. He worked as head of department at LUT Electrical Engineering in 20214-2020. He was also chairman of the university collegium during that time. Since 2021 he works as a dean at LUT School of Energy Systems. He has published more than 100 scientific papers and 9 patent applications, supervised or co-supervised 17 doctoral dissertations and more than 100 master’s thesis. Ha has also worked as a member of the board in several start-up companies originated from the LUT research.
